Ripon is a historic city in North Yorkshire, England. The city is just over 1,300 years old. Ripon is the third-smallest city in England and the smallest in Yorkshire, by population. Ripon replaced its old textiles industry with one for the manufacture of spurs during the 16th century. They were so widely known that they gave rise to the proverb "as true steel as Ripon Rowels".
