Workington is a small coastal town in Cumbria, England. It is based at the mouth of the River Derwent. The area around Workington has long been a producer of coal and steel. During the Second World War, a strategically important electric steel furnace which produced steel for aircraft engine ball bearings was moved to Workington from Norway to prevent it falling into Axis hands.
